First new to Nikon/Nikkor. Currently I have the Z 24-70/2.8 S which I luckily found used to support my new Z9. The Z9 came several months earlier than expected so that was what I have. In the mean time I was originally thinking about getting the Z 24-120/4 S since I was building the kit for wildlife and BIF.
Feb 14, 2016. #2. The 28-70 is a pro lens no doubt, and it really comes down if you need the 2.8 aperture. The 24-120 f4 VR isn't 2.8 and doesn't have a pro build, but the added range and VR is quite useful for general shooting and you can alway add a 50mm 1.8 G if you need something fast. The 24-70 f4 is probably sharper than most Fuji lenses, looks like an amazing lens. The 16mm 1.4 is not the sharpest Fuji prime though; it's pretty weak when compared with other Fuji primes such as the 90mm f2, 50mm f2, and 80mm f2.8. Good lenses are more than sharpness and this is why the 16mm f1.4 is so well regarded. For now I have the 24-70 f4 which I really like as well as 70-200mm 2.8 S line to cover the range without overlappping. The second is so insanely sharp, so I probably won't need the 70-120 from the 24-120mm. But the 24-120 would make a good single lens for hiking. Conclusion. The new NIKKOR Z 24-200mm f/4-6.3 VR lens is surprisingly capable lens that delivers excellent image quality in most of cases. I purchased it after some initial reviews about its sharpness, silent focus, size and weight. It did not disappoint.
